New PVA Vessel member, Makena Boat Partners, Wailea, HI, has operated on South Maui, Hawaii’s second largest island, for 30 years helping visitors experience the best that Maui offers: its stunning waters. “We offer sunset cruises, snorkling tours, and whale watching trips several times a day,” said Maria Taylor, General Manager. Taylor, whose family owns the 80-passenger, 65-foot catamaran Kai Kanani II with Sid Akiona, a Native Hawaiian, said they operate year- round and have more than 30 full and part-time employees. In addition, they work with a local chef who caters meals for passengers using locally sourced foods and beverages. “We are fortunate that we have so many fresh, local foods, wines, and spirits that we can serve to our guests to fully enjoy and appreciate Hawaii,” Taylor said. She said that foods prepared for passengers range from ap- petizers for some events, to full meals for others. While the whale watching trips are seasonal, based on whale migrations, all others scheduled cruises take place throughout the year. “Our sunrise snorkeling cruises in the marine preserve are popular, despite an early start at 6:15 a.m. in the morning,” Taylor explained.
