The batteries will be charged using hydropower from Niagara Falls, the largest single renewable energy source for electricity generation in the U.S., which accounts for seven percent of the country’s total utility-scale electricity generation. The use of locally produced renewable power will make the energy cycle for the operation of the new Maid of the Mist vessels entirely emission- free. How many passengers are carried on your vessels? Each of the new vessels are classified as U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Subchapter K Vessel, small passenger vessel carrying about 520 passengers. How long are your cruises? Each tour takes about 20 minutes. How long will it take to charge the batteries? The lithium-ion batteries will recharge to about 80 percent during each offloading and onloading of our guests. How long do you expect a charge to last for each vessel? The vessels will charge between every trip while passengers disembark and board. Shoreside charging will only take seven minutes, allowing the batteries to power the electric propul- sion motors capable of a total 400 kW (563 HP) output. The power setup will be controlled by ABB’s integrat- ed Power and Energy Management System, which will optimize the energy use on board. The vessel will rest and charge fully at night. n Cloud Based - Available off-line with Underway App Maintenance - Inventory - Documentation Intuitive User Interface Safety & Drill Integration Turnkey Setup Electronic Log Books SMS Integration Marine Maintenance System w w w .
