One of our captains really loves birds.” This spring Hall installed an educational sign to let ferry passengers know about the project. He’s proud to have the ferries helping in work to protect wildlife in the Sound. “Our boats are out in the Sound every day of the year for 16 hours a day, going back and forth — we have a unique opportunity to provide data about what’s going on in the middle of the Sound,” explains Hall. BOEM oversees areas of the Atlantic Ocean available to lease for offshore wind developments. With dozens of proposed offshore wind projects up for con- sideration, scientists are hoping to collect data and in- formation about how such developments could impact migratory birds. n
