32 MARCH 2019 • FOGHORN SAFETYMATTERS By Eric Christensen, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Risk Management T he PVA Safety and Security Committee held an in-person meeting prior to the PVA Convention at MariTrends 2019 in New Orleans, LA on January 16, 2019. Working through the packed agenda yielded a number of completed projects that are now available to members. Updated Safety Manual and Training The 2019 revision to the PV A Slips, Trips, and Falls Manual is now available on the PVA Learning Management System online portal. The revised manual reflects information obtained through the PVA/U.S. Coast Guard working group chartered by the PVA/ Coast Guard Quality Partnership. Another addition to the online portal is a training presentation put together by Mike McElroy, Wendella Sightseeing Boats, Chicago, IL, and immediate past committee chair, on the hazards of carbon dioxide on passenger boats. Spoiler alert – it is not just in the machinery space. The online portal can be reached through the Member Resources tab on the PVA website under Safety and Security Tools on the Member Download page or by clicking on the link pva.marinels.com. Each vessel operating member company is assigned and provided a user ID and password in order to log into the content. If you need login information, please contact me at echristensen@pas- sengervessel.com. As a reminder, the login information can be provided to member employees, so they have free access to PVA crew training materials. The Learning Management System is designed so that feedback can be provided by users throughout the training modules. PVA Safety and Security Committee Update: More Safety Tools Available to Members
