b'On Saturday morning, presentations began bright and ear-ly in the Oregon Convention Center with the first of over FOGHORN FOCUS 60 sessions featuring more than 90 speakers. There were roundtables, lunch and learns, and educational sessions for members to attend. Experts from throughout the industry shared insights into their specialties, discussed the latest trends in their fields, and spoke to what they see on the horizon, givingattendeesvaluableinformationtheycan apply to their own operations. Audience members engaged speakers with questions and shared their own experiences, delving deeper into the topics at hand and often sparking conversations that carried on long after a session ended. Attracting and retaining employees continued to be a focus for many operators. New ideas and creative methods for staffing were shared both in and out of scheduled session by members from all corners of the country and industry. Operators shared ways to also reach more consumers with presentations on innovative marketing approaches, unique cruise ideas, and how attention to even the smallest detail can have a significant return on investment. Learning about the latest technology is a key draw for many convention go-ers. Presenters discussed advances in zero-emission propul-sion and alternative fuels, as well as ways to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) in various aspects of an operation. Devel-oping chatbots to handle customer inquiries was explored as one way to harness this technology for improved service and to free employees time to take on other tasks. The most recent U.S. Coast Guard regulations regarding sexual harassment and assault reporting were discussed in depth as operators look to understand the requirements and how to protect their employees and guests. Safety and security are always top of mind and attendees were able to learn more about cybersecurity methods, engaging with the TSA on drills, and how to implement a safety management system. It takes a village to run a successful passenger vessel compa-ny, and the MariTrends 2024 exhibit floor was the place to connect with associate members for practically any need an operator may have. From shipbuilders and naval architects to ticketing systems and software solutions, from furniture to insurance, the number of booths continues to grow each year.Companiesshowcasedtheirlatestandupcoming projects and connected with vessel members about ways to enhance and grow their operations.
